Sven Mikser:
“We have to refocus Estonian democracy. Democratic government ought to ensure the multitude of options and enable its citizens to choose amongst them. That’s not the case today.
Our civic discussion needs to be redirected to our real problems. It is time to realize that if one Estonian school child goes home hungry at night, that’s a much bigger threat to the overall sustainability of our society than any hostile statement by some second-rate politician from the East. Those deserted homes in Estonian villages and towns predict a much darker future for us than on-going arguments about relics of World War II.
We must ensure the long-term vitality and longevity of Estonia and the Estonian nation. That is why the problems of today such as poverty of families with kids and rural flight cannot be simply ignored and we can’t afford to sit and wait for more prosperous times. For all that we do not do today, tomorrow may be irreversibly late.
With your help we can shake up the establishment and bring the political thought out of stagnation. We need all hands on deck, openly and decisively discussing the same problems that an average Estonian worries about.
I want to, with your help, give the political leadership that has been hijacked by large political parties back to the the people. We are the force that shall stand for our country’s socially and regionally balanced development. I promise I am up to the challenge and I will give my best to ensure that Estonia will be the place we’ll be proud to call home.“
