Social Dems, Russian Party to Sign Merger Agreement
Chairmen of the Social Democratic Party and Russian Party in Estonia will sign a merger agreement on January 12.
The document will enter into force once it is approved by the congress of the Russian Party on January 29 and General Assembly of the Social Dems on February 19.
Both parties will continue under the name of the Social Democratic Party.
The cooperation talks between the two already started in late November after the Social Dems’ call for political empowerment of the nation’s minorities.
Chairman of the Social Democrats, Sven Mikser has said in previous statements that both organizations have enough common ground for future cooperation and that supporters of the Social Dems should not worry that the merger would turn the party more radical or even pro-Russia.
